THOUGHTS FOR THE WEEK OF 5/19/18- 5/26/18

I find a lot of people ask about other people’s successes and how they achieved it and how we can achieve those things ourselves – myself included – and it always seems so easy or natural to those people. What am I missing? How can I change so this same success comes to me as well? And typically it’s just not that easy. By watching and studying successful people, you can take like little tips here and there but at the end of the day, there’s nothing that really substitute, just a consistent deliberate effort.

There was a gentleman by the name of Carl who was an executive at the first company I worked for right out of college. And he once told me, “You don’t need to be that much better than everybody else,” He says, “You just need to be 5-10% better. 5-10% percent better every single day on a consistent basis.”

It’s not a matter of your greatest moments or successful weeks. It’s the consistency that really truly matters. For example, a good friend of mine recently lost 25 pounds over the course of six months. It wasn’t big changes and it didn’t come quick! He made a few changes and put forth a consistent effort. I’ll tell you what, he didn’t look up after three weeks and say, “Well shit, I’ve only lost two pounds. This isn’t working.” Instead he asked himself, What can I do in 26 weeks? And if I lost two pounds every three weeks, I would see some pretty good results. Right? And all he did a little bit better than that.

I guess what I’m saying is, by extending the longevity and putting forth the consistent effort you can see success as well. In our society today it’s so easy to get caught up in what’s the next thing or the new latest and greatest hack to success and at the end of the day, it’s truly just the consistency of the effort. Don’t doubt the long game.
